Women’s Equality Day 8/26/17

Today, August 26th, is Women’s Equality Day. Designated by Congress in 1971, the observance of this day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th amendment but it also encourages awareness towards women’s continuing efforts for full equality.

One way that Beaches Habitat for Humanity emboldens women’s equality is through the Women Build.  Women Build empowers Womens Equality Day Post 2women who want to get involved in home construction but may be intimidated by a traditionally male industry. The goal of Habitat’s Women Build “is to empower women to help families build strength, stability and independence….and with these tools, women can succeed in changing their communities”.

Every year, Beaches Habitat’s Women Build partners with a family and together they build a decent and affordable home. Since the Women Build generally works with one family at a time, this give volunteers a unique opportunity to really develop a relationship with the homeowners.
