Youth Programs
The partnership between Beaches Habitat for Humanity and Habitat families does not end when construction is complete. This partnership continues long after the building has ended with programs designed to assist the youth of Habitat families, and most recently has been extended to Habitat family adults. These programs are aimed at helping individuals realize their educational potential. We remain especially grateful for the heartfelt philanthropy of Board member Herb Scheidel and his wife Miyuki, and their extraordinary support of educational programs offered by Beaches Habitat for Humanity.
- Scheidel College Scholarship
All Beaches Habitat children have access to a full four year scholarship to the University of North Florida. To qualify for this scholarship, students must meet the admission requirements of UNF. Recognizing that the surest way to break the cycle of poverty housing is through education, Board member Herb Scheidel and his wife Miyuki created the Scheidel Scholarship. In establishing this scholarship, the Scheidel’s generously donated $1.25 million in funding. Today, six Habitat students are attending UNF, made possible by the Scheidel Scholarship. space
- Scheidel Junior College Scholarship
Recognizing the important role that junior colleges play as a stepping stone to higher education, Herb and Moyuki Scheidel, created and funded a junior college scholarship. Through this scholarship, Habitat children, as well as Habitat homeowners, have access to full tuition for a wide variety of educational programs offered by Florida Community College at Jacksonville. space
