Mentoring & Tutoring

Prep Club

Elementary school students complete a service learning project during a Prep Club meeting.

Prep Club recognizes and rewards students for their academic accomplishments. Students receive cash rewards for A’s and B’s in academic subjects and for perfect attendance each quarter. Prep Club members are also required to complete 10 hours of community service each school year. Prep Club parties are held at the end of each quarter to celebrate everyone’s hard work. Currently, there are 164 students enrolled in Prep Club. Prep Club, another great idea conceived by Herb Scheidel in 2000, motivates and encourages students to stay in school and eventually attend college. The Prep Club is funded by the Scheidel Family Foundation.

After School Learning

Students participate in the After School Program with a tutor.

Beaches Habitat partners with the City of Atlantic Beach to provide after school programs designed to help students with homework and offer programs in reading fluency, reading comprehension, math groups and book clubs. The after-school program runs Monday through Thursday and is supported by The Jim Moran Foundation, the Jaguar Foundation and other community sponsors.

Take Stock in Children

Take Stock in Children is an in-school mentoring program for 7th through 9th graders under the Florida State College of Jacksonville. Students meet weekly with their volunteer mentor to encourage, guide and/or tutor the student and to support them in their journey to prepare for post-secondary education.
