AmeriCorps Service
![]() Perhaps the biggest benefit you'll gain from being a member of AmeriCorps is the satisfaction of incorporating service into your life, as well as making a difference in your country. Whether you're building homes at Habitat for Humanity or tutoring kids, you will see the results of your work and know that you have made a difference in the lives of those you touched. AmeriCorps engages nearly 50,000 Americans, age 17 and older, each year in service to meet community needs in education, the environment, housing and other areas. Members serve with national nonprofit organizations like Habitat for Humanity. Beaches Habitat is fortunate to have AmeriCorps members helping the organization reach its goal of eliminating substandard housing. At Beaches Habitat, AmeriCorps members serve as crew leaders, organize volunteer activities and supervising home construction, as well as engaging directly in construction. Educational programs designed for homeowners and their children are also an integral component of our mission, and AmeriCorps members play a key role in developing, managing and delivering these programs. In addition to a modest living allowance, AmeriCorps members are eligible for a variety of benefits that make the dedication of a year of their life to community service worthwhile. Members that successfully complete their service are provided an AmeriCorps Education Award of up to $4,725. You will also gain valuable experience in an area that interests you, which can translate into job experience in your chosen field. As an AmeriCorps member at Beaches Habitat, you will learn teamwork, communication, planning, and other useful skills that will help you for the rest of your life, while gaining personal satisfaction and helping others.
