Coming Soon: Senior Home Repairs

Beginning in the fall, Beaches Habitat will roll out plans for a new home repair program for senior homeowners in the Beaches communities. In the first year, the focus of the program will be on “health and safety” repairs that will allow senior homeowners to remain safely in their own homes as they grow older.

A partnership with Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM) will be an integral part of the new program. Applicants will apply for services through BEAM, who will refer potential candidates to Beaches Habitat. Seniors, age 60 and older, are eligible for the program and will be evaluated based on Habitat’s three standard criteria: need, ability to repay, and willingness to partner.

A wide variety of repairs will be available, including roofs, windows, and plumbing. Beaches Habitat will also include projects to improve accessibility, such as installing handrails, building ramps, and repairing sidewalks.

Program information will be available beginning in October. If you are interested in the program, you can submit your email address to receive a notification when details are available on our Owner Occupied Repairs page.

Over the next several months, Beaches Habitat’s construction team will begin recruiting and training a volunteer workforce with specialized repair knowledge to assist with home repairs. Volunteers who are interested in learning more about the repair program should send an email to volunteer@beacheshabitat.org.
