Update from the Construction Team

To our wonderful volunteers:

First and foremost, we need you to know – we miss you!

At Beaches Habitat, the construction team has two equally important priorities – building affordable homes for our families and keeping our team safe. Of course, volunteers are essential part of our team!

While things are changing rapidly in the City of Jacksonville, we are taking a slower approach. For the time being, we will remain closed to volunteers.

Believe me when I say that there is nothing that would make us happier than working with volunteers again! However, we feel strongly that we need additional time to prepare for the safe return of volunteers to our sites. While we don’t know exactly when that time will be, it will not be before Governor DeSantis and Mayor Curry move Jacksonville into “Phase 2” of reopening.

In the meantime, our staff and AmeriCorps members will continue to make construction progress, albeit slower and not quite as joyfully without you! At the same time, we will also make preparations for volunteers to return, including implementing and testing new safe work practices as recommended by the CDC, OSHA and Habitat for Humanity International. When the time comes for volunteers to rejoin our team, volunteering will likely be different than what you’ve experienced in the past.

With that in mind, we’d really like to hear from you. The link below will take you to a very brief survey – it will take you only 2 or 3 minutes to complete. Your response will be incredibly helpful as we make decisions about the future of volunteer construction. Please help us to shape our plan in ways that will make sense for you!

We look forward to the time when we can build alongside you again!
