Coronavirus/COVID-19 Statement **updated 4/1**

Now, as much as ever, we are seeing how important it is to have a safe, stable place to call home. With growing concern around COVID-19, it seems like we are facing new challenges every day. But, we know that together we will get through these difficult times.

We also know that many members of our community are going to be facing unexpected hardships and growing need in the coming days, weeks and months. Our top priority during this time is the health and safety of our staff, the people we serve and our community. Because of this, we have made difficult decisions about the way we work – you can read more about the changes below.

Administrative Office

The Beaches Habitat office at 797 Mayport Road is closed to visitors and our staff is working virtually. We can be reached by phone and email during our normal office hours, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

All meetings and other inquiries will be addressed over the phone or by video conference. If you have a meeting planned with a Beaches Habitat staff member and have not been contacted about rescheduling, please call or email for information.

If you have questions or are unsure who to contact, please call us at (904) 241-1222 or email us at info@beacheshabitat.org

Construction Sites

While our construction team is still on site accomplishing what they can, and we are taking precautions to protect their health and safety, we are no longer accepting volunteers. Our volunteers are essential to the work we do. We are grateful for their spirit and desire to serve even during these difficult times. However, at this time our first priority is safety.

We will reevaluate the situation and update our plan as new developments unfold. If you have questions about our volunteer program, please contact Sarah Jared, Community Outreach Director, at volunteer@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 334-2278.

Homeownership Program

At this time, we have suspended all Sweat Equity activities for individuals and families in our Homeownership Program. In an effort to promote the health and safety of program participants and our staff, we will not have any Sweat Equity opportunities on the construction site.

If you have questions or concerns about your Sweat Equity hours please contact Joyce Freeman, Family Services Director, at homes@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 595-5797.

We are not accepting applications for homeownership at this time. Individuals and families who are interested in applying should visit www.beacheshabitat.org/get-help to add their email address to our notification list. We will notify those on the list when we are accepting applications again.

Current Beaches Habitat homeowners who incur financial hardships during this time and are concerned about making their mortgage payments are encouraged to reach out to Debbie Jones, COO & CFO, at finance@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 595-5792 or Joyce Freeman at homes@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 595-5797.

Education Program

After School Program
The Jordan Park and Gail Baker Community Centers are closed and our Education Program staff is working remotely. The field trip to the Cummer Museum has been canceled and will be rescheduled for the fall. Our staff has been in contact with our partners at the City of Atlantic Beach, as well as with our volunteer tutors, who have expressed concern for the children. We will follow the school calendar and our centers will be closed until May 1st. It is our hope and prayer that the children and families are safe and well. We miss them!

Prep Club/Take Stock in Children
All Prep Club activities and events have been postponed until further notice. Rewards for Middle and High School students will be issued once Duval County Schools make an official decision on how they will issue grades for the 3rd and 4th quarters. Once grades have been released, we will send an email communication to Prep Club participants, explaining how they can submit their report cards to us for rewards.

Take Stock in Children (TSIC) is currently working on setting up virtual mentoring sessions for those with mentors. Information on mentors and support from TSIC will be emailed to those currently enrolled in the program.

If you have questions about Prep Club or TSIC, please contact Amanda Patow, Prep Club Coordinator, at education@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 595-5802.

Special Events

Habitat Builders Classic Golf Tournament
We have made the decision to cancel our 2020 Habitat Builders Classic Golf Tournament. This was a difficult decision – the awareness generated and funds raised through this event are vital in helping us reach our program goals. However, our top priority is the safety of our staff, partners, and the community. If you were planning to participate in the golf tournament, please consider making a donation to Beaches Habitat to help us mitigate this loss.

If you have purchased a ticket or event sponsorship and have not been contacted by a member of the Habitat Builders Classic Committee, please reach out to Mary Anne Christensen, Development Director, at donate@beacheshabitat.org or (904) 595-5794.

CEO Build
In addition, we have decided to postpone the launch of our inaugural CEO Build. The new date will be announced in the coming weeks. Updated information, and registration for the event, can be found at www.beacheshabitat.org/ceo-build.

General Precautions

At this time, the World Health Organization (who.int) offers the following guidelines:

  1. Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention. Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider.

  1. Wash your hands frequently. Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based (60 percent) hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

  1. Avoid hugs and handshakes. Use alternate ways of greeting people and maintain at least 3 feet distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

  1. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth and can make you sick.

  1. Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

  1. If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.

  1. Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Please know that we are constantly monitoring the situation and will update our plans as new details emerge. Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this public health crisis together.
