Elementary Tutoring
In partnership with the City of Atlantic Beach, the after school program of Beaches Habitat for Humanity provides tutoring and homework assistance for students in grades K-5 at the Jordan Park and Gail Baker Community Centers. The children live in Beaches Habitat homes and surrounding neighborhoods and attend either Atlantic Beach or Neptune Beach Elementary Schools. We have a strong and reliable base of nearly 25 tutors who are trained to use materials that promote student learning in the areas of reading and mathematics. It is one of our objectives in the education program to support the shared work of teachers and families in helping children to succeed.
We also offer enrichment experiences to the children through book clubs, art, gardening, cooking, Readers’ Theatre, etc. Our relationship with families is important to us so we have gatherings known as PACT (Parents and Children Together) events. We reach out to partners and organizations in the community that can further enrich what we can provide to them. Our partnerships have included Junior Achievement, Beach Safety Program of Jacksonville Beach, Dutton Island Garden (DIG Local), First Act, and Girl Scouts to name just a few. We complete our school year with a celebration, book give-away and field trip.
