Gussie speaks from the heart

My journey started 10 years ago. I was a divorced mother with four children. I needed stability for my children, and I applied to Beaches Habitat for Humanity for a home. We were approved and moved into our lovely single-family home over 10 years ago. The desire to want something better for my family didn’t stop there.

I had always wanted to be a nurse and throughout the years the dream was deferred due to the many responsibilities of providing and prioritizing my children’s needs first.

I decided it was time I did something for me. I spoke to the Lord about it and chose to step out on faith. In 2022, I resigned from my work-from-home job as a Claims Representative and I went back to school.

The solace in not having to work during nursing school was indeed a true blessing. I’m grateful because Beaches Habitat for Humanity afforded the opportunity for me to focus on a challenging nursing program without the demand of working a full-time job. I graduated with honors at the top of my class and I’m now living my dream as a nurse!
