Thank You, Kaydee, for Building Community with Heart
After nearly a year of service with Beaches Habitat for Humanity, Kaydee has completed her AmeriCorps term as Volunteer Services Coordinator. From welcoming new volunteers to capturing the spirit of the build site in photos, she has brought creativity, compassion, and joy to every part of her work.
As she wrapped up her term, Kaydee took time to reflect on what this experience has meant to her, and what she’s taking with her into the next chapter.
In Kaydee’s Words
Hello! My name is Kaydee, and I’ve been serving with Beaches Habitat as the Volunteer Coordinator through AmeriCorps since last November. My term is coming to its close and I appreciate the opportunity to share a few reflections with you.
In my role, I’ve been able to help prospective volunteers get connected with our mission—making sure they have what they need to serve safely and meaningfully, keeping up with our volunteer documentation, and helping maintain relationships through things like birthday cards, thank-you notes, and volunteer appreciation events. I also get to support our marketing efforts—taking photos and videos on-site during snack breaks, capturing the heart of what happens here every day.
I actually came to this role after a friend reached out thinking it might be a good fit. Before this, I served in the Peace Corps and worked in music festivals, helping coordinate volunteer clean-up crews. So, while the setting is very different, I’ve always been drawn to communities that build something bigger together—whether that’s a beautiful event or a safe, affordable home.
When my AmeriCorps term ends, I’ll be returning to event production work because that environment—full of art, music, nature, hard physical work, travel, and community—really makes me feel alive. But I’ll carry this experience with me always. Serving with Beaches Habitat has taught me so much about perseverance, teamwork, and what it really takes to create change right here where we live.
As someone who grew up at the Beaches, this mission hits close to home for me. I’ve watched this area change dramatically since I was a little girl running around at Jack Russell Park just around the corner. Affordable housing has become harder and harder to find, and I’m proud that my efforts this past year have contributed, even in a small way, to keeping this community accessible for the people who make it so special.
What’s inspired me most during my time here is the people—the staff, the volunteers, everyone who serves and contributes. The community we build together is the reason this mission continues to thrive. Every time a volunteer lights up while learning a new skill, or a homeowner shares their excitement about their future home, I’m reminded of how many hands and hearts make that moment possible.
So thank you—for your teamwork, for believing in this mission, and for creating the environment that allows people like me to serve and grow while helping others do the same. It’s been an honor to be part of the Beaches Habitat family.
With Gratitude
Thank you, Kaydee, for your service, your spirit, and your commitment to helping others build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. You’ve left a lasting mark on Beaches Habitat and the community we serve.
We wish you all the best in your next chapter, and we’ll always be cheering you on!
