Education Mid-Year Update
After School Program
It’s halfway through the 2019-2020 school year and we are noticing promising academic growth from the students in the Beaches Habitat Education Program! This year approximately 45 children at both the Jordan and Baker Community Centers in Atlantic Beach have been spending time with our 28 volunteer tutors, receiving academic assistance as well as enrichment in gardening, art, and science. With the help of community support, students at both centers have access to computers, homework help, and a healthy snack every day after school. Our volunteers work one on one with each student to make sure they are performing at grade level with language arts and math and to help them develop a strong foundation of reading.
Prep Club
Coming in February, we’re looking forward to celebrating academic achievement with the students in Prep Club. On February 22nd, participants will gather together to receive awards for their second-quarter report cards. To add to the celebratory spirit, the students will share in some friendly competition with a middle school versus high school kickball game!
You Can Help
Looking for an easy way to make a contribution? We’re collecting white socks for Mission House! Prep Club participants who donate will receive one hour of credit towards their service hours requirement. Contact the education program for more info at education@beacheshabitat.org.
Much Gratitude
We are thankful for community assistance we received in January month from L’Arche, St Paul’s by the Sea Outreach Ministry, Feeding North East Florida, The Beaches Community Fund and more!
