The Jim Moran Foundation Awards Grant to Beaches Habitat

Atlantic Beach, Florida: A generous grant of $30,000 from The Jim Moran Foundation will address a critical need for home repair and rehabilitation services for seniors in the Jacksonville beaches communities. Beaches Habitat will provide assistance to seniors whose properties have fallen into disrepair to allow them to age-in-place safely. Such repairs will include those that prevent homeowners from suffering injury and falls, accidents, or having to move out of their homes and into assisted living. Home repairs may include repair or replacement of broken windows and doors, sidewalk repair, roof repair, floor repair, plumbing, electrical and other health and safety repairs. Beaches Habitat will partner with Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM) to identify and refer potential client homeowners.

AARP surveys consistently find that the vast majority of older adults want to reside in their current home or community for as long as possible. In order for this to occur, it is critical that the home meets conditions that allow aging-in-place safely and securely. The home repairs and modifications that will be provided by this grant will provide greater independence and security to the affected homeowners.
