How do we create an IMPACT?

Aside from volunteering in the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home or making a donation to support our mission, there are a number of ways you can help put an end to substandard housing.  Through advocacy we can raise awareness of the issues associated with substandard housing and influence positive changes in housing policy. Although these actions might seem small, our local grassroots advocacy efforts can have a global impact!

At Beaches Habitat for Humanity, we support a number of advocacy initiatives established or promoted by Habitat for Humanity International. Learn more about our advocacy efforts by clicking on the links below!

Every day, Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the country rely on the important work of national service members. These service members are able to support Habitat’s work thanks to programs like AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA. For the past 23 years, service members have helped manage, organize and lead thousands of Habitat volunteers, and support Habitat affiliates’ daily operations year-round.

In short, national service helps Habitat for Humanity fulfill its mission. Use the form below to tell Congress to support robust funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service — the federal agency that oversees national service programs— in the fiscal year 2019 budget.

 Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program

The Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) supports the ability of Habitat affiliates nationwide to serve more low-income families in need of affordable housing.  Habitat affiliates utilize SHOP funding for land acquisition, infrastructure, and to purchase foreclosed and abandoned properties. SHOP is the only program administrated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that supports homeownership opportunities for low-income families.
