How do we create an IMPACT?
Aside from volunteering in the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home or making a donation to support our mission, there are a number of ways you can help put an end to substandard housing. Through advocacy we can raise awareness of the issues associated with substandard housing and influence positive changes in housing policy. Although these actions might seem small, our local grassroots advocacy efforts can have a global impact!
At Beaches Habitat for Humanity, we support a number of advocacy initiatives established or promoted by Habitat for Humanity International. Learn more about our advocacy efforts by clicking on the links below!
Did you know that each year Beaches Habitat for Humanity supports the efforts of Habitat for Humanity affiliates around the world through an annual tithe? We currently provide funding to Habitat for Humanity Nepal, Habitat for Humanity Lesotho, and Habitat for Humanity Haiti.
With hundreds of thousands of homes destroyed or damaged from the recent earthquakes, the people of Nepal are still in great need of housing assistance. Let your U.S. lawmakers know that you care about the desperate need for shelter and encourage them to continue to support rebuilding efforts by signing this petition!
National Service is critical to the Habitat for Humanity mission. Over the past 20 years, HFH AmeriCorps members have served 22,500 families, engaged 3.1 million community volunteers, and provided 14 million hours of service by leading thousands of Habitat volunteers and building capacity for affiliates. Some in Congress have threatened to cut funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) — the federal agency that oversees national service programs.
At Beaches Habitat for Humanity we understand the value of each AmeriCorps member. In fact, we have been hosting AmeriCorps National and VISTA members at Beaches Habitat for Humanity since 2002! Make sure that Congress continues to allocate adequate funding to sustain CNCS by signing this petition!
The simplest and easiest ways to show your support for our cause are to become a fan of Beaches Habitat on Facebook and Twitter, and to talk with your friends and family about the importance of Habitat.
